1. Does the battery leak ?
Yes - Continue with A2
No  - Continue with B
2. Is external damage visible in vicinity of leak ?
Yes - Reject claim ascertain cause of ge
No  - Claim justified
3, Are the cells evenly covered with acid ?
 
 
Yes - Continue with B
No  - Reject claim not manufacturing
         detect posible causes over charging
B   Specific gravity test
Funtioning batteries should have the same spesific gravity in all cells. Maximum permitted tolerance in all 6 cells 0.05 kg/dm3
Please Ensure That : if the speciifx gravity of the acid is less than 1,240 at 27 C, the battery is charged before further testing !

1. One cell with low specific gravity
    Example : 1,260 - 1,260 - 1,150 - 1,260 - 1,260 - 1,260
Yes - Claim justified
No  - Continue with B2
2. Two adjacent cells with low specific gravity
    Example : 1,260 - 1,170 - 1,170 - 1,260 - 1,260 - 1,260
Yes - Claim justified
No  - Contiune with B3
3. Is the electroyte discoloured (drak brown) and / or is
    there evidence of excessive water consumption
 
Yes - Reject calim - damage caused by overcharging - test voltage regulator on            vehicle
No  - Contiune with B4,B5, or B6
4. If the specific gravity is less than 1,120 kg/dm3 in all        cells anclor a milky discolouration of the electrclyle is      present, charge the battery in the charge acceptance at      least 1/20 th of the nominal capacity
Yes - Charge battery - if the specific gravity is less than 1,240 when the battery
          is fully charged there is no fault, the battery has ercded due to ageing,
          reject claim
No  - Reject claim - damage caused by deep cycling
5. If the specific gravity is uniformly less than      1,200 in all cells, charge the battery is the       charge acceptance at least 1/20 th of the       normal capacity ?

 

Yes - Charge battery - if the specific gravity is less than 1,240 when the battery
          is fully charged, there is no fault, the battery has eroded due to ageing ->
          reject claim
No  - Reject claim damage caused by insufficient charging. check vehicle
         electrics i.e. voltage regulator, alternator of fan belt.
6. Specific gravity equal in all cells, but above 1,240 kg/dm3 Proceed to test C
C   High rate discharge test
This test should be carried out if the specific gravity is abouve 1,240 kg/dm3 otherwise charge the battery first

Failure to reach required voltage under load of colapse ?
For discharge testers with variable
resistances the following test applies :
10 V at specific gravity of 1,280 kg/dm3
  9 V at specific gravity of 1,240 kg/dm3
 
 
Subject the battery to a load equipment to 3 x .... capacity for 10 seconds (i.e. 12V/45 Ah at 123 A) During the test load and the resulting voltage must both remain at the given values above.
Yes - Claim justified
No  - Battery in good condition
